Stiltsville is located in the middle of Biscayne Bay National Park off the coast of Miami, so it would be impossible to bring The Riveted Roost or any camper, but you can get there by boat. However, you can't step aboard one of the houses unless you have a permit or an invitation.
We have friends in the Miami Springs Power Boat Club and compete in the Ralph Duey Memorial Fishing Tournament in June every year. It usually falls near Justin's birthday, so we try to make it a weekend celebration - and an escape from reality.
The house is a special place, surrounded by clear water and seagrass flats. It's not unusual to see a variety of water birds, sharks, stingrays and various fish. This year, we had a herd of manatees join us for the day.
Best of all are the incredible sunrises and sunsets. Once night falls, the Miami skyline lights up, providing a reminder that we're not too far from reality, but far enough away to appreciate the calm and quiet.
